STILL LIFE

I take photographs of the objects or scenes that I feel  I should paint, bring them in, make them part of m my “art life”.  My studio becomes the home of my photographs. Each time, I intuitively pick one and just start painting in oils, on canvas. In the process, experiences and feelings start mixing with the colours. When I paint portraits I almost feel like I become the psychoanalyst of my subjects, I feel their psyche, I connect with them via painting. The smaller the size of the portraits, the more intimate this relationship is.

Music accentuates my feelings, when I want less accentuation I listen to informative podcasts. Some of my influences are female surrealist painters such as Leonora Carrington, Dorothea Tanning, Leonor Fini , Gertrude Abercrombie and the expressionist portraitist Alice Neel. Time painting in my studio is where I feel the most complete and in harmony with my inner self.
